The Thunder Bay Amateur Radio Club was formed February 1961.  Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Alpena Community College.  A summer picnic is held in  August and a Christmas party is held in December in place of the regular meetings.

The Club maintains a repeater on 146.76 MHz with a PL of 88.5 Hz which is located on Manning Hill approximately 12 miles west of Alpena.  The antenna for the repeater is 910 feet above sea level, 800 feet above the surrounding terrain and the height above ground level is 200 feet.  The 6 db gain of the antenna gives the repeater an Effective Radiated power of 200 watts, providing coverage for Alpena and the surrounding counties.
